 MALCON 2014 HAS LINED UP THE  TOP INFORMATION SECURITY EXPERTS IN THE WORLD TO ADDRESS CRITICAL CYBERSECURITY ISSUES THROUGH DEBATE AND SHARED LEARNING

Boston, Massachusetts — October 14, 2014

NEWS FACTS

·         MALCON Conference, the world’s leading information security conference addressing the issues of Malicious and Unwanted Software - Virus, Worms, Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs) - will gather  at the Waldorf Astoria El Conquistador Resort, Fajardo, Puerto Rico, USA, October 20-22, 2014.

·         MALCON 2014 highlights include:

  Keynote: “Changing the way we fight Malware" by Dennis Batchelder, Director of the Microsoft Malware Protection Center (MMPC);

  Keynote: " Eliciting maliciousness: from exploit toolkits to evasive Malware" by Dr. . Giovanni Vigna, Chief Technology Officer of Lastline, Inc., and Department of Computer Science at the University of California in Santa Barbara

  Panel Discussion entitled  "The Malware Threat in the Era of Unlimited Computing Power", lead by Neil Rubenking , Lead Analyst at PC Magazine, where the panelists will explore the impact of “Big Data” and, now, “Fast Data” on IT security.  In effect, the virtually unlimited power and speed of computing resources today enables a cornucopia of new strategies and tactics for both attackers and defenders. How will such strategies and tactics affect the world in the coming years is a big question that the panelists will wrestle with.

  Keynote  Participants from 30 countries, including the Peoples Republic of China, Korea, Australia, Germany, Canada, Israel, Egypt, the Unites States and many others will gather to discuss and explore new ways to deter the ever increasing Malware threat that criminal organization, individuals, and nation states posed to the world today.

·         Quotes from Previous Participants:

  Keynote  "You have no idea what a special conference this is".  Often we speak about its uniqueness. So, what makes MALCON conferences unique? Simply stated, the conference brings together  researchers from both industry and academia in an environment of "Intimacy and Candor", where the search for the truth and knowledge is paramount to our own egos"-- Anthony Arrott, Managing Partner, Veszprog Labs, USA

  Keynote  "The Malware conference is the only conference I have been in where the presenter changes his/her slides as a direct result of the interactions with the audience. That is a conference worth going to" -- Dennis Batchelder, Director of the Microsoft Malware Protection Center (MMPC)

  Keynote   The Malware Conference is modeled after the Aspen Super Computer Workshop of the early 80's. There as a young computer architect I saw Seymour Cray, Gordon Bell, and Gene Amdahl argue and challenge each other in search of the knowledge. Their egos were left at the door, all that matter was the truth not who you were. When I started the Malware conference in 2006, I was looking for such an environment. An environment of Intimacy and Candor. Intimacy, meaning a small group of smart individuals coming together to solve real problems.  Candor, meaning  we don't care how big a name you are, we will challenge each other in search of the truth" -- Dr. Fernando C. Colon Osorio, General Program Chair, Malware Conference

·         Best Paper Award: This year the Best Paper Award - Industry Track was presented to Mr. Andreas Clementi and Mr. Peter Stelzhammer from AV-Comparatives, Austria in recognition to their contributions to the Field of Information and Systems Security and the quality and timeliness of their work as embodied in the manuscript:

“Global and local prevalence weighting of missed attack sample impacts for endpoint security product comparative protection testing"

Mr.  Clementi and Mr. Stelzhammer were honored for their contributions in a ceremony that took place on October 28th, 2014 during the 9th IEEE International Conference on Malicious and Unwanted Software (MALCON 2014), at the Waldorf Astoria El Conquistador Resort, Fajardo, Puerto Rico, USA
